Bringing the CVC-OEI Online Ecosystem to Life through the MiraCosta College Student Support Hub
You will see an example of how institutions can use Canvas to create a holistic learning environment. MiraCosta’s Online Instructional Technologist will share instructional design tips and innovative techniques that helped create an application experience to provide students access to online student support services.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1) Learn instructional design tips and innovative techniques to connect students to online student support services
2) Learn how an online Student Support Hub can create a more inclusive learning environment for both online students and traditional students.
Jim works with faculty, administrators, student services professionals, technologists, and students to help MiraCosta strengthen online learning and support services. He especially enjoys the way that MiraCosta views the student experience online as an integral part of access and success for its students. He also appreciates opportunities such as Can•Innovate to learn from and collaborate with folks from around the CCC system. You can connect and learn with Jim on Twitter at @jjulius.

Hello, my name is Karen Turpin. I am an online instructional technologist at MiraCosta College. In this role, I am the Canvas Administrator and I support the online education department with technology development, support, and training. What I love most about my job is working with faculty, staff, and students of many backgrounds and helping them explore new and innovative ways to reach their goals using technology. My recent projects include working with the CVC-OEI and various constituents at the college advocating for and building equity-minded student solutions that benefit the overall student experience at the college.
