First Friday: Humanizing Instructor Interactions
June 1, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm
Archive:
This webinar was part of our June 2018 First Friday event. In this session, faculty demonstrate how online instructors are going beyond announcements, discussion forums, and emails to establish regular effective contact and support a sense of community among learners. You’ll walk away with new ideas that will empower you to infuse your students’ learning experiences with your warm, human presence and support the needs of our most at-risk online learners. Denise Maduli-Williams demonstrates how she uses a free app to record captioned videos with students while walking across campus and how she seamlessly shares the videos with her students on Twitter and Instagram. Kristen Nichols shares how she uses video to provide feedback to students within the Canvas SpeedGrader and Discussions.
Resources
Denise:
- Clips for iOS – This is the app Denise uses to record and share her fabulous auto-captioned videos.
Kristen:
- How to leave “media” comments for students in the Canvas SpeedGrader (instructor guide)
- Screencast-o-matic – a free tool you can use to record your screen with a voice narration, download the file, and upload into a Canvas media comment.
