First Friday: NameCoach- Creating a Sense of Belonging within Student Services

Dr. Marilyn Harvey Dean of Academic Affairs-Student Experience CVC-OEI
Bio: Marilyn is a first-generation college student who transferred from San Diego City College, after serving in the US Army. She then continued her studies at Point Loma Nazarene University, earning both a B.A. in Human Environmental Science and Business and an M.E. with an emphasis in Counseling and Guidance. Dr. Harvey also holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California. One of Dr. Harvey’s core beliefs is that “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” and she has spent over 20 years of her career working in higher education, 16 of them with community colleges. She has taught, face to face, hybrid and fully online, for more than 10 years. Additionally, Dr. Harvey has worked extensively with faculty, focusing especially on incorporating student services into academics. She is committed to equity, access, and is excited by the opportunities for students to meet their goals via the OEI, SSSP, equity, and Strong Workforce.
Bio: Arnita is an attorney with a background in public policy and social justice. She facilitates Equity and Inclusion trainings, with a focus on Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) for faculty, staff, administrators and students. Arnita is an adjunct faculty at West Los Angeles College and serves as the Online Student Equity Specialist for the Student Experience Division of the CVC-OEI.
