Capstone Process
Before beginning this last step of local POCR certification, all POCR Team members must complete the appropriate training.
Overview
The college's POCR Team will review three courses locally, one course at a time, using the CVC Course Design Rubric. It is permissible to review POCR Team member courses. In each review, the POCR Team will check the course content and will receive guidance from the CVC@ONE POCR Leads, who will act as resources and coaches in this process. During this initial review, the review team will work with the instructor-author to fully align the course. The POCR Lead or designee will verify the incomplete items are aligned and quality check for accessibility.
Initial Capstone Meeting
The POCR Team and the CVC@ONE POCR Lead will hold an initial meeting to discuss and establish a timeline and details for the POCR Capstone.
Step 1: First Course Review
- Each local reviewer will use the CVC Course Design Rubric to review the designated course independently, tracking ratings, evidence to support the rating, and indicating where evidence was found. Feedback for each rubric element will be noted on the rubric document.
As the review is occurring, the designated CVC@ONE POCR Lead will be available to help each reviewer as needed.- Teams should schedule "norming sessions" with your POCR Team and the CVC@ONE POCR Lead if needed while actively reviewing the course
- When the POCR Team members have completed their reviews, they will share their individual assessment documents (with ratings and feedback) with the CVC@ONE POCR Lead who will spot-check the course to assess the Team’s process.
- Debrief: Once the review work described above is complete, a meeting with the POCR Team and CVC@ONE POCR Lead will be held to discuss the reviewers' findings and the next steps to bring the course to full alignment. The group will work to build a consensus on ratings for each Rubric element, and what the instructor needs to do (if anything) to align the course. This feedback will be shared in writing with the instructor via a feedback form documenting the edits and alignment.
The local POCR team will describe a quality assurance plan for confirming the feedback is implemented by the instructor and that the course is fully aligned. - If changes are required from the instructor, the local reviewer team will submit quality assurance documentation providing evidence that the appropriate adjustments have been made by the instructor to their course. When the local POCR team feels the instructor has completed the updates, the CVC@ONE POCR Lead will do a final spot check and share additional feedback with the team (if any).
Step 2: Second Course Review
- Working in pairs or small groups of three, the review team will follow Steps 1-3 above to review and align a second course.
Step 3: Third Course Review
- The POCR Team will review a third course using their college’s local review process as it will doing for all future reviews. The CVC@ONE POCR Lead will then spot-check the course. A final meeting will be held with the CVC@ONE POCR Lead and the review team to discuss the outcomes of the third course, answer any course alignment and local process questions, and discuss next steps for the college post-certification. When the 3 courses are aligned, the college is on track to be Local POCR Certified!
- If the POCR team wishes to receive additional training/support from the CVC@ONE team in the review of an additional course, that additional support can be arranged.
Step 4: Capstone Completion
- Once all courses are aligned, your college leadership will receive the official notice from CVC@ONE’s Executive Director congratulating them on the milestone. The CVC@ONE POCR Lead will guide the Local POCR Lead in submitting the three aligned courses for Quality Review badging so that the college understands the process for locally badging all future courses. The Local POCR Lead will submit the name/number/title of each course and the instructor’s name (as it appears in the college’s class schedule) using the Quality Reviewed Badge Request form on the college's CVC@ONE Dashboard. The course badge will then appear on the Course Exchange site within a few weeks.
