First Friday: Creating Inclusivity and Supporting Equity: Building and Using an Equity Rubric

Do you want to improve inclusion and equity in your online and hybrid programs? We suggest ways to institutionalize practices that support diverse student populations to succeed in the online environment. We will present Peralta's Online Equity Rubric, share how and why we designed it, and then give you examples of how it's being used.

Bio: Chelsea is an instructor of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and the Distance Education Coordinator at Laney College. She is also a lead reviewer for the Online Education Initiative’s course exchange. She is passionate about teaching teachers how to develop creative, inclusive activities in the online environment, and helping equip her students with technology skills that will open doors in both their educational and professional lives.

Bio: Inger is a tenured sociology instructor at Laney College, currently serving as the district Distance Education Coordinator. Inger’s background includes 5 years as an administrator (4 years as a dean and 1 as a Vice President of Instruction) and 12 years of teaching. Her favorite job responsibility is teaching teachers how to create online learning activities that create a sense of student belonging and classroom inclusiveness.
